GODSMACK Frontman Says STEVEN TYLER's Decision To Join 'American Idol' Is 'Brilliant'

When asked about AEROSMITH frontman Steven Tyler's decision to become a judge on the new season of "American Idol", GODSMACKfrontman Sully Erna said, "I think it's brilliant. Beyond good. I think he's gonna be the male Paula Abdul, 'cause he's a little bit dingy, you know what I mean?! He's probably all pilled up, and he's gonna be funny. I mean, he's witty, he's really witty."
Erna also commented on Kid Rock's recent statement that Tyler's decision to be a judge on "Idol" was "the stupidest thing he's ever done in his life. He's a sacred American institution of rock 'n' roll, and he just threw it all out the window. Just stomped on it and set it on fire." 

Said Erna: "Kid Rock needs to shut up. That's not true. This is gonna be great for TV, man. It's supposedly the right thing to do to is to rag on a show like that 'cause it's so popular, and everybody that has a problem most of the time, they have a problem with something that's really popular — it's the envy/jealousy thing; I don't know what it is. I'm not saying that's what it is with Kid Rock, because I get along with him fine. But I have to disagree. I think it's brilliant that Steven Tyler is gonna be one of the judges; I think it's gonna be so good."

As previously reported, Slash recently joined Kid Rock in voicing his displeasure that Tyler will be a judge on "Idol". Slash told New York radio station Q104.3, "It's really sort of disappointing to me that he's gone and done that, for whatever reason — a lot of it having to do with (the fact that) I just know the guy and the other guys in the band are bummed out and they've had a really rocky road for a while. And then just because'American Idol' is what it is, so it's hard for me to put the thing together." 

"The Oracle", the fifth album from GODSMACK, sold 117,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to debut at position No. 1 on The Billboard 200 chart.

GODSMACK's last album, "IV", opened with 211,000 units back in May 2006 to land at No. 1. This figure was a bit less than the 267,000 units registered by GODSMACK's third CD, "Faceless", back in April 2003, and the 256,000 first-week tally achieved by 2000's "Awake".

GODSMACK has just completed a North American headlining tour with support from FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH and DROWNING POOL. This was GODSMACK's first full trek in support of "The Oracle". 

Erna released his debut solo album, titled "Avalon", in September.
