Bach has accused Classic Rock of “fucking him around” in an article on his former band in our October edition. It seems to have escaped Seb’s notice that we acclaimed Skid Row’s first album as one of the 150 greatest debuts of all time in said issue.
In case you missed it, the intro to our Skids story ran as follows:
‘In Sebastian Bach, Skid Row thought they had the bona fide rock star who could propel them to the big time. But with the singer’s talent came an ego that threatened to destroy the band.’
In response, Bach wrote at Twitlonger.com (a Twitter offshoot site which allows users to post longer messages):
‘As usual, the latest issue of Classic Rock mag fucks me around and completely misses the point of rock’n'roll. Once again they have a five-page article with full-page pictures of me with my old band talking about 20 years ago. Once again they lie about me and make zero mention of Broadway, Guns N’ Roses tours, TV shows, and, of course, no mention at all of my solo CD, Angel Down. The article ends with the lie: “Sebastian Bach refused to be interviewed for this article because he does not want to live in the past, even though his live set is half songs from the first record.”
‘Complete and utter horseshit. We do more songs from Angel Down in my set than any other record. They can’t say this because Classic Rock mag has never and will never support me making new music. Doesn’t fit into their mould they made for me. Tough shit.
‘A gigantic FUCK YOU to Roger Lotring [who wrote the Classic Rock article] who has always fucked me in print.
‘Classic Rock mag: Come see me two nights at London 02 arena with Guns N’ Roses. Pay close attention to the song list, if you dare. Not that you give a fuck at all about music. You sell nostalgia. I have a new record on the way. Sorry. You’re welcome for the five pages in your new mag. But do not think for a second you are talking about Sebastian Bach. You’re not talking about me. You talk about your “idea” of who I am. You do not know me at all. If you want to know me, listen to Angel Down. It rocks just as hard as the first Skid Row album in every way. The fact that it does not exist in your rag says more about you than me. See for yourself in the UK live this October.’
We contacted Roger Lotring and asked him for his reaction to Seb’s extended bout of Tweeting fury. Here’s what Rog had to say:
‘Yes, I repeatedly requested an interview, to be told via e-mail through a representative that he [Bach] feels talking about Skid Row is living in the past. I was told that he would talk about the debut Skid Row album, but only during an interview for his new album (I’m not clear if that meant a forthcoming album, or Angel Down).
‘I’ve never met Sebastian, actually. But back in 2003, I was assigned to write a Skid Row feature about their first album featuring Johnny Solinger. So, I interviewed the entire band following a show in Connecticut. Four days later, I visited them again at a show in Massachusetts. Backstage, after the show, when someone asked Johnny about Sebastian, he said: “Man, Sebastian Bach is a rock star! Me, I’m just the singer in Skid Row.”
‘That was the opening line of my Skid Row feature.
‘I chose that Skid Row album as my favourite album in the Metal Edge Year In Review issue that year. I also revisited that quote. Turns out, that issue also featured an interview with Sebastian on-set of The Gilmore Girls TV show.
‘Apparently, when said issue came out, his cast mates gave him a hard time about me liking Skid Row without him, and also Johnny’s quote.’
